DTF Transfer Size & Placement Guide
Use these simple starting sizes to help your DTF transfer look balanced on the shirt.
Quick adult T-shirt size guide: Match the print width to the shirt size for a balanced look.
Want to save money on S–XL shirts? You can make the design 10.8" wide instead of 11". It will still look great on S–XL shirts and can help fit two designs side by side on a 22" gang sheet.
Front Shirt Print
Use the Shirt Size Guide AboveCenter the design on the front of the shirt. A good starting point is a few inches below the collar.
For S–XL, about 11" wide looks great. You can also use 10.8" wide to save gang sheet space while still getting a great-looking print.
Back Shirt Print
Match the Shirt SizeCenter the design across the back. Start it below the back collar so it does not sit too high.
Use about 11" wide for S–XL, 15" wide for 2XL–4XL, and 17" wide for 5XL–7XL as good starting sizes.
Oversized T-Shirt Print
16" Wide OR 20" TallUse whichever measurement the design reaches first.
If the artwork reaches 20" tall while it is only around 14" wide, that is completely fine.
Left Chest / Pocket
About 3–4" WidePlace it on the wearer's left chest. Keep it slightly below the collar and away from the armpit.
Youth Shirts
About 8–10" WideYouth shirts are smaller, so the transfer normally needs to be smaller too. Center it the same way you would an adult shirt.
Sleeve Prints
Keep It SmallCenter the design on the outside of the sleeve. The exact size depends on the sleeve and the shape of the artwork.
Do Not Stretch Your Artwork
Keep the proportions locked. When you change the width, the height should change with it.
Do not force a design to be wider just to reach a certain number. The natural shape of the artwork matters.
For example, an oversized design may reach 20" tall while only being about 14" wide. That is okay. Do not stretch it just to make it 16" wide.
Quick Hat Size Tip
For hats, aim for about 2.7" tall or up to about 5" wide. The height is more important. If the design reaches 2.7" tall before it reaches 5" wide, stop there.
